CONCEPTION

The club offers a large choice of musical events. On Fridays and Saturdays one can enjoy concerts by famous Russian rock-groups (mostly guitar music); on Thursdays independent bands play music of various styles, such as electronic music, neo-classical music, world music, neo-jazz, etc.

Since spring 2000, the leaders of the world's avant-garde, electronic and alternative rock scene have performed in the club regularly.

DJ-culture is also represented in the club's programme. On weekends you can dance to club dance music (mostly disco-, funky-house, 2-step garage etc.). The disco may well be a masquerade, with Go-Go dancers and special actor guests entertaining the public. Theme parties often take place in the club.

On other weekdays you can listen to DJs play experimental music of different styles - from easy listening to downtempo, from IDM to deep-house. Their sets are accompanied by movies and cartoons.

HISTORY

A BRIEF HISTORY OF 16 TONS NIGHT CLUB

The ground floor was opened on April 16, 1996. It is a traditional English pub with a relaxed atmosphere and a brewery of its own. Folk, country and rock-n-roll concerts are regularly held here; most of the bands performing here play songs with English lyrics. On October 30, 1997 the first floor was opened. This floor is a night club with a stage and a dance floor. It has a 30 seat dining area it is ideal for company/private functions.

NB: The club is named after a song by Merle Travis dedicated to the hard work of miners. It was written in 1946 but became famous only in 1955 when Tennessee Ernie Ford began to sing it. "Sixteen tons" sound track can be heard before each concert held in the club.

The club had its own brewery since the day it was established. We make unfiltered beer from natural materials imported from England. The formula of our home beer is patented. 16 Tons home beer has won the first prize at several international competitions.
